Theft and vandalism investigated in Lynemouth

Police are appealing for information after two incidents in Lynemouth.

The first incident happened between 7pm and 10pm on March 25 when 30 paving stones were stolen from an address in Guildford Square. Then between 2am and 2.20am on March 26, a Ford Fiesta and a van were set alight in Fenham Road.

Anyone with information should call police on 03456 043043.

What is Northumberland's top building?

You've picked Northumberland's top castle and its top beauty spot, but now we're asking you for your views on the county's best building.

buildingsmontage.jpgOur choice of 12 impressive structures ranges from the Royal Border Bridge in the north to Seaton Delaval Hall in the south, from the 12th century Hexham Abbey to modern buildings like Woodhorn and Alnwick Treehouse.

You can also pick from Morpeth Chantry, Howick Hall, Belsay Hall, Wallington, Brinkburn Priory, Cragside or Biddlestone Chapel - or add your own choice if we've missed it.

You can vote by clicking your choice on the Local Poll section at the bottom of this home page. The voting will be open for the next two weeks, with the winner announced on April 10.

Teenager found dead at Hadston

A teenager has been found dead at his home in Hadston.

Police are investigating the death of the 18-year-old, whose body was found in his bed at a house on Sunday

Officers are currently working to establish the cause of death but at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious. DCI Rob Coulson of Northumbria Police said: "We are making inquiries to establish the cause of death."

Arson attack on Ellington house

A petrol bomb was hurled at a house in Ellington as a family slept upstairs.

The attack happened at around 3am on Saturday when the couple and their teenage daughter were in bed. A bottle containing flammable liquid was thrown at the garage, which is attached to the house.

Luckily, the roof of the garage was covered with rainwater which put the blaze out before it could spread.

Win for Lynemouth in NNFL

Springhill and Alnwick Town Reserves will battle it out for the Robson Cup after winning semi-finals at the weekend.

Springhill coped better with the conditions to beat Alnmouth United 3-0. Mark Reid gave the visitors a half-time lead while a Daniel Carey own goal and Andrew Skelly's third wrapped up the win. Alnwick beat Wooler 2-0 through Neil McFall and Stephen Hogg.

Lynemouth score eight in Sunday League

The Traveller's Rest in Choppington overcame a tricky away game at Pegswood Ex-Services to maintain the pace at the top of Division One.

Goals from David John Kilpatrick (2) and Dale Wilkinson earned them a 3-2 win, with Carl Sanders and Matthew Cummins getting on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Lynemouth keep snapping at their heels, however, after comprehensively beating Ashington Booze Brothers 8-1.

Tree marks new council

A tree planting ceremony will take place next week to celebrate the inauguration of the new Northumberland County Council.

Council leader Jeff Reid and chief executive Steve Stewart will be planting an oak tree in the grounds of County Hall, Morpeth, on Wednesday at 1pm.

They will also be officially raising the new county council flag.

Meanwhile, residents across the county can still give their opinions on how they would like the new-look authority to tackle problems in their community.

Farne Islands voted top beauty spot

The Farne Islands have been voted Northumberland's top beauty spot.

farne1.jpgIn the latest poll on the Your Place community websites, the Farnes got 27% of the votes, ahead of Lindisfarne (22%) and the Cheviots (17%).

Votes also went to Bolam Lakes, Crag Lough, Allen Banks, Druridge Bay and Kielder Water.

Ellington pit gets memorial

A mining memorial will be erected at the former pit site where the region's 800-year-old links to the industry were severed.

Ellington Colliery in Northumberland was the region's only remaining deep mine when owner UK Coal announced its closure just over four years ago following severe underground flooding.
