Druridge Bay - A Marred Beauty
On New Year's Day, I took my son and one of his friends to Druridge Bay for a walk. Despite the beach being very busy with families and dog walkers, the beach was generally tidy with only a few smaller items of rubbish - unsightly but a vast improvement on the summer months.
As we walked along the beach, however, we found a car mat and a thick rubber inner tube - the kind found inside motorbike tyres. This rubbish had clearly been brought to the beach with the deliberate aim of dumping it.
As the signs of our industrial past recede with each passing year, we have no excuse for continuing to blight our landscape with this sort of unnecessary dumping of materials which can be easily deposited at the household waste recovery centres distributed throughout the region.
If we wish to continue to enjoy the improvements that are occurring in our area - such as Druridge Bay Country Park - we all need to use our landscape responsibly. The vast majority of our community already does and is heartily sick of our efforts being ruined by the anti-social, anti-environmental, selfish actions of the majority.
If you have noticed an area marred by litter, graffiti or vandalism, attach a comment below detailing what you saw and where you saw it.
