            <title>Stobswood through to next round of cup</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Stobswood Welfare finally staged their third-round game in the Northumberland FA Minor Cup, which has had progress badly affected by the weather. </p>

<p>Stobswood continued their progress by beating Newcastle RVI Lochside 3-1 thanks to Steve Gibbard (2) and Josh Hay.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Chance to Tri a Triathlon</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Looking for a new sport to try in 2010? Then why not try a triathlon!</p>

<p>British Triathlon is launching the Tri A Triathlon campaign across Northumberland next month with the aim of encouraging more people to take up the sport, which consists of cycling, swimming and running.</p>

<p>Taster sessions will be staged at Ashington Leisure Centre on February 27 and March 20, Druridge Bay Country Park on April 17 and the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, Woodhorn, on May 15 (all starting at midday).</p>]]></description>

            <title>Linton karate students put on a top show</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Two North karate clubs put on a spectacular floor show at the Seahouses Junior Competition.</p>

<p>Ashington and Linton students competed superbly in team and Individual kata and kumite events, as entrants of all ages gained recognition for their achievements.</p>

            <title>Stobswood shocked by Chemfica</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Fourth-placed Newcastle Chemfica were impressive 6-0 winners at Stobswood Welfare in the Northern Alliance Second Division.</p>

<p>The Welfare had just won seven games on the trot, but finishes for Michael Crozier (2), Anthony Bruce (2), Martin Dixon and Mark Burlingston were just reward for a sterling performance by Chemfica.</p>

<p>Meanwhile in the Sportsworld North Northumberland League, Alnmouth United pushed Lynemouth Institute all the way but could only manage a single Lewis Conroy effort, Tony Messenger (2) and Darren Burn on the mark for Lynemouth.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Stobswood survive onslaught to win cup game</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Stobswood Welfare stood up well to a first-half onslaught by cup hosts Wallsend Town before emerging 2-0 victors in the Pin Point Recruitment Amateur Cup.</p>

<p>Stephen Gibbard opened the scoring only two minutes before the interval, and in the second period the Welfare produced impressive football.</p>

<p>To ensure they made progress, their second goal was slotted in on the hour by regular scorer Josh Hay.</p>]]></description>

            <title>Stobswood boost title credentials</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Stobswood Welfare, who have won their last seven games, look set for a prominent role in the race for promotion from the Northern Alliance Division Two.</p>

<p>The Welfare ended the lengthy unbeaten run of visitors Forest Hall and ran out 2-0 victors, with both of their goals tucked away in the opening half by Matthew Graham.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in the Runciman Cup, Lynemouth had Darren Burn netting four times in a seven-goal success over Rothbury Reserves.</p>

            <title>Goals aplenty for Stobswood and Lynemouth</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>Stobswood Welfare carried their impressive Northern Alliance league form into the cup arena when they visited Swalwell and triumphed 6-0.</p>

<p>In Division Two of the North Northumberland League, Lynemouth netted seven times in a victory over Springhill, Darren Burn celebrating a hat-trick. Rothbury continue to head the Division One table thanks to a fine win a Acklington.</p>

            <title>Stobswood Welfare clock up another win</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>In the Northern Alliance Division Two, third-placed North Shields Athletic were beaten 5-2 by their in-form hosts Stobswood Welfare.</p>

<p>The Welfare clocked up their sixth successive league win, with goals by Steve Gibbard (2), Matt Graham, Josh Hay and Mike Hogg. James Baker and Bryan Murray replied.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, in Division Two of the North Northumberland League, Lynemouth Institute were too strong for Craster Reserves as Lenny Lansbury helped himself to five goals.</p>]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>in the Second Division of the Northern Alliance, the game between fourth-placed Stobswood Welfare and visitors Whitley Bay Town was a non-starter due to Whitley's inability to field a team.</p>

<p>Strong winds and Northumberland Minor Cup ties reduced the programme even further, so that only two league games went ahead.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the North Northumberland League's Lynemouth Institute won through to the second round of the Northumberland Minor Cup along with Berwick Town.</p>]]></description>

            <title>North Northumberland League football round-up</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>A Jake Lowes goal gave Alnwick the lead at Lowick, but the home team took a share of the points thanks to an equaliser from Andrew Burgon.</p>

<p>Acklington picked up their first win of the season thanks to two goals by Eric McKevitt and single strikes by Aaron Redpath, Wayne Robinson, Richard Lemon and Dell Sawes. </p>

<p>However, it was not all one way as Berwick United Reserves hit back with a Chris Falconer hat-trick and a Michael Robinson goal. </p>]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Bedlington Terriers Reserves were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat at Rothbury in the North Northumberland League this weekend.</p>

<p>Four goals from Jackie Angus, three by Craig Sutton and single strikes by Stuart Foreman, Alan Brown, Michael Ord and Scott Rennison saw the home team net 11 times.</p>

<p>Berwick Town put in a better performance, but still lost out to Shaun McKay and Kyle Kennedy efforts for Shilbottle.</p>]]></description>
